Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit

Her Story, Our Mission: Meet the volunteers

Her Story, Our Mission: Meet the volunteers

This March, we’re excited to celebrate Her Story, Our Mission, a month-long tribute to the women who are making a real difference in the fight against hunger. Throughout Women’s History Month, we’ll share the stories of women who are part of the FMSC mission. Today, we’re excited to tell you about some of the women who are hands on at our sites — packing meals and actively making a difference for hungry children and families across the world.

Cinda Bartz, MaryAnn McDowell, Linda Rambo, Nancy Fink and Mary Lou Foss volunteering at FMSC Libertyville.

Libertyville: meet Cinda, MaryAnn, Linda, Nancy and Mary Lou Foss

These incredible women have been actively involved at FMSC Libertyville since the very first food-packing session. Since that first day, Cinda Bartz, MaryAnn McDowell, Linda Rambo, Nancy Fink and Mary Lou Foss have dedicated thousands of hours to volunteering in the packing room, assembling approximately 10,000 boxes of food that will directly feed hungry children and create a positive impact on their lives.

Amanda Bennett volunteering at FMSC Eagan.

Eagan: meet Amanda

Amanda Bennett has been volunteering at FMSC Eagan for over 10 years and is truly passionate about helping children get a nutritious meal. A lot of volunteer opportunities sound great, but they aren't wheelchair accessible. I have Cerebral Palsy, so having the option to sit down and label allows me to keep coming back.” Amanda’s willingness to help others is inspiring and embodies the spirit of service and dedication that FMSC celebrates during Women’s History Month — and beyond.

Eileen Hammerbeck volunteering at FMSC Coon Rapids.

Coon Rapids: meet Eileen

Eileen Hammerbeck began packing meals at FMSC Coon Rapids in 2011 and has been a frequent volunteer ever since — volunteering 386 times last year alone. To date, she has completed 3,844 volunteer hours packing nutritious meals that will be lifechanging for children all over the world.

Sue Dolezal holding up MarketPlace bracelets and volunteering at FMSC Aurora.

Aurora: meet Sue

Sue Dolezal began volunteering at FMSC Aurora in 2020, and has since been a champion in getting many of her friends involved and volunteering too. Not only that, but Sue has been a big supporter of FMSC MarketPlace™, purchasing hundreds of Threads of Hope bracelets supporting artisans in the Philippines. “FMSC is a big part of my volunteer life. I love the staff, the process of packing and the shoppertunities!”

Chanhassen: meet Ashley

Ashley Kleist is highly engaged in the fight against childhood hunger and has become one of FMSC Chanhassen’s top three volunteers, packing meals at over 100 sessions per year. Ashley consistently shows up to help make a difference in the lives of hungry children and families.

Loann Pham volunteering at FMSC Richardson.

Richardson: Meet Loann

Loann Pham has been volunteering with FMSC since 2019, and is now close to hitting 500 food-packing sessions. Not only that, but she has also set up 900 groups to come and serve at FMSC Richardson. Averaging at least 100 volunteer hours per year, Loann is truly engaged in the fight against childhood hunger. "I volunteer in memory of my dad because he always encouraged our family to give back."

Allison Bies volunteering at FMSC Schaumburg

Schaumburg: meet Allison

Allison Bies is a dedicated member of the Pallet Packers, a group that passionately promotes FMSC and encourages others to join in packing. She is a regular donor and volunteer who brings both speed and enthusiasm to every session. Her commitment to FMSC goes beyond just packing — she actively recruits new volunteers and spreads the mission of FMSC with everyone she meets.

Fran volunteering at FMSC Tempe.

Tempe: meet Fran

Fran is highly engaged in the fight against childhood hunger — but not only that, she also cares deeply about her community. After packing meals, she takes recyclable material from FMSC and creates mats for the homeless to sleep on with them. Its Fran’s giving heart that inspires those around her in Tempe and beyond. “I like the idea of providing a spoonful of love and knowing God will put his love into each bite.”

These women are showing up, leading with strength and working together to turn hunger into hope. By sharing their stories, we honor their dedication and invite you to join the movement. Because when women lead, change happens. Get involved by volunteering now
