Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit
“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” --Jeremiah 32:17
Nutritious food paves the way for education. It helps kids concentrate in school and dream for the future.
“There is a Haitian saying, ‘the empty sack does not stand,’” one Haitian principal told us.
Without food, it was difficult for the kids at his school to learn and to pass their tests. They always fell asleep in the classrooms and missed class.
“But praise God,” he said, “After having the food there is a huge change in our school.”
He reported that giving a hot lunch of MannaPack™ meals at least three times a week in his school greatly improved students' performance.
We have heard about the importance of school meals time and time again from our partners.
At another school in Haiti, we heard that after serving the morning meal, teachers reported more attentive students and a better school atmosphere.
After one year of eating MannaPack meals, overall grades at that school jumped from 63 to 95 percent.
“This amazing increase proves what we were sure to be true,” Sharon Olwig of God’s Ministry in LaGonave, Inc. said. “These children do want to learn and are very capable of it, but proper nutrition must be present.”
A daily meal at school helps kids concentrate on learning rather than their growling stomachs.
Hot lunches reduce school dropout rates by 200-300 percent in developing countries, according to the World Food Programme.
This is the power of food. You have the power to make a difference in the lives of so many precious children.
For the next few months, we are going to bring you stories of the power of food in education. We’ll introduce you to our partners on the ground doing amazing things to educate children and empower them to bring lasting change to their communities.
