Eswatini, Africa, has a large population highly vulnerable to hunger. Nearly 60% of the country lives on less than $1.90 per day. Samkelo is a mother of two living in Eswatini. When she needed to provide for her family, she was connected to FMSC MarketPlace™ partner, Khutsala. With Khutsala, she became an artisan, learning how to make handcrafted goods. She has now honed her craft and produces beautiful, one-of-a-kind items.

That was two years ago. Now, Samkelo is not only supporting her two children but also six other children from her extended family. Through the income she earns as an artisan with FMSC, she can provide for her kids’ education, health and daily needs. And it doesn’t stop there. Now, the other children in her family — who were once at risk of missing out on education — can go to school, giving them a brighter future full of possibilities.
