Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit
Each meal you pack, fund and pray over equips FMSC partners to do transformative work around the world. Hunger relief is usually just part of what our partners do — but food is the foundation for so much more.
Here's a look at the state of hunger in two countries where FMSC partners work.
Ukraine | Europe
February will mark 3 years of full-scale war in Ukraine
Conflict has devastated Ukraine. A full 40% of the population — 14.6 million people — need humanitarian aid, and over 11,700 civilians have been killed (UN). Attacks on energy infrastructure have left 50% of the country’s electrical capacity destroyed. Power outages of up to 20 hours a day and rising energy costs force families to choose between heating and basic needs like food and health care.
Winter deepens the crisis. Food shortages and inflation will leave 1.85 million more people needing aid, and rural families lose access to subsistence farming in freezing conditions. Children are especially vulnerable
FMSC partners use MannaPack® meals to support our partners’ work in Ukraine and the surrounding region, including:
- Care and support for refugees
- Emergency supplies for displaced families
- Mental health and trauma care for children and adults

Zambia | Africa
Children under 5 stunted from malnutrition: 34.6%
Zambia is in the midst of a severe hunger crisis, with 48% of the population unable to meet basic calorie needs and more than one in three children under 5 stunted. Ranked 115th out of 127 countries on the 2024 Global Hunger Index, Zambia faces hunger at a serious level.
Climate shocks, including the worst drought on record, have devastated agriculture, leaving 2 million smallholder farmers unable to grow crops or sustain livelihoods. Poverty and lack of access to diverse nutrition worsen malnutrition, while an influx of refugees — primarily women and children from neighboring DR Congo — strains already limited resources.
The challenges are immense, but so is the opportunity to make a difference.
FMSC partners use MannaPack® meals to support our partners’ work in Zambia, including:
- School meal programs to improve education and nutrition
- Resources for mothers and babies
- Technical and vocational training to break free from poverty
