Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit
This March, we’re excited to celebrate Her Story, Our Mission, a month-long tribute to the women who are making a real difference in the fight against hunger. Throughout Women’s History Month, we’ll share the stories of women who are part of the FMSC mission — and today we’re excited to feature Teresa George, a fundraiser who has showed up and rallied support from her community to help feed kids.
Teresa grew up outside of the U.S. and quickly realized that she was very fortunate. She never suffered food insecurity, but was aware that was not the case for many. Seeing hungry children and adults while she and her family had so much was difficult for her to understand.
Teresa was introduced to FMSC when her sons were in middle school. As a parent chaperone on a field trip, she was amazed at what she and her children were doing. It made her heart so joyful to hand-pack meals that would directly feed hungry children. “I felt this was an opportunity to show my children how they could do good and be grateful … I wanted my boys to understand how lucky they were and FMSC gave me a way to do that.”
When Teresa saw the opportunity to become an FMSC fundraiser, she decided that was the next step in her support. She began emailing her family and friends asking them to support her fundraiser, even though it felt intimidating. “I keep reminding myself that pushing myself out of my comfort zone is important for a greater cause.”
Last year, Teresa raised over $14,000 for FMSC through her FMSC fundraiser. “People are good and it's easy to find so much negativity in the world today, but seeing people support my fundraiser reminds me of the positive all around me.”
Teresa has showed up and worked hard to turn hunger into hope. By sharing her story, we honor her dedication and invite you to join the movement. Because when women lead, change happens.
