Dear friends,

For 5 years, Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) has kept our meal cost at 15 cents. However, FMSC has been greatly affected by recent increases in food costs. In January, a 2,000-pound bag of rice cost us $370. By April, that bag cost $700 and may cost up to $900 by summer.

Due to these price increases, each FMSC meal is now 17 cents. We need your help to bridge the 2-cent meal price gap.

Two pennies may not sound like much money, but a 2-cent increase on 55 million meals (our goal for 2008) creates a $1.1 million deficit in our budget. Without your additional support, we will have to cut 7 million meals.

In April I was visiting FMSC mission partners in Haiti when food riots broke out after rising food costs left millions of Haitians in desperate need of food. The riot images shown by American media paled in comparison to what FMSC’s mission partners see every day.

Yet FMSC is making a difference through over 200 feeding programs in Haiti. In the mountain village of Elastik, students walk 2 to 3 hours to get to class. Since last fall, these students have received FMSC food every day. The food is making a profound difference for these children: Kids that were once visibly malnourished are now thriving.

FMSC food is desperately needed in Elastik and around the world. In light of rising food prices, your help is needed more than ever before. For just 2 cents per meal, your emergency gift can help us bridge the gap. To make a secure online donation, click here.

Bless you for helping us feed God’s starving children.

Onward in God’s service,
