Philippines mapAbout the Philippines

The Philippines are an island nation in Southeast Asia comprised of 7,107 islands in the Pacific Ocean. With influences from around the world, the country is very diverse. They are considered an indigenous Austroneasian culture, but historical influences include European countries, Latin America, and the United States. The country is predominately Roman Catholic (80%), making it the 4th largest Catholic nation in the world. The official languages are Filipino and English, but they boast around 12 vernaculars which are considered co-official in their provinces. Only Filipino and English are used as official media languages. The climate is tropical with an average temperature of 79.7 °F. Their three seasons are considered the summer season from March to May, the cold season from December to February, and the monsoon season from May to October. Most of the mountainous islands used to be covered in tropical rainforest, but are seeing an increasing problem of deforestation. The Philippines are in the Western Pacific typhoon belt and are hit with around 19 typhoons each year.
